Calvin Bassey reveals Rangers inspiration as he recalls his Ibrox experience with a difference

New Rangers signing Calvin Bassey reveals the impact of Joe Aribo was part of the reason he decided to move north of the border.

The left-back has signed a pre-contract deal to move from Leicester City, putting pen to paper on a deal that will run until 2024.

The youngster has some experience of the stadium, as he played against Rangers in a closed-door development match at Ibrox in September 2017, where the young Foxes side ran out resounding 6-1 winners.

He's the second player to join Steven Gerrard 's squad from Brendan Rodgers' Leicester, after Andy King's brief loan spell last season.

And he admits that seeing other young players succeed in the Scottish Premiership convinced him to make the move.

Bassey told Rangers TV: "I feel Rangers is the right place for me because I've seen players such as Joe Aribo come from south of the border and do so well.

"Obviously I appreciate everything Leicester have done for me, and I just feel like Rangers are offering me a massive platform for me to take my career to the next level and showcase my ability to the world.

"I know the Rangers fans are very passionate and they want to win, and that's like me - I always want to win.

"I know that Rangers have a very rich history.

"I played Rangers at Ibrox before, but the stadium was empty.

"You could (still) feel the real atmosphere and the history and the presence when nobody was there.

"I can't wait to play there when it's a full stadium."
