Calvin Bassey joins Rangers duo as Ibrox star earns first Nigeria national team call up

Rangers star Calvin Bassey 's impressive start to the campaign has been rewarded with a first international call-up by Nigeria.

The versatile defender - set to start against Sparta Prague on Thursday night - has been selected for an upcoming World Cup qualifying double header against the Central African Republic.

He will join Ibrox team-mates Joe Aribo and Leon Balogun in linking up with manager Gernot Rohr's Super Eagles squad next week.

The 21-year-old, also eligible to play for England and Italy, has enjoyed a more prominent role with the Premiership champions this season.

And he's likely to fill in for Connor Goldson at centre-back this evening after he was unable to make the trip to the Czech Republic.

Rangers are abroad in search of a first win in their Europa League group stage campaign, having been beaten by Lyon at Ibrox on opening night.

Bassey could then make his international debut on October 7 in the first of two matches in the upcoming break.
