Calum Butcher's horror Celtic 'leg breaker' leaves former EPL ref speechless as he lets rip live on TV

Ex-Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher was left speechless after viewing Calum Butcher's horror tackle on Celtic midfielder David Turnbull.

And he immediately gave it a straight red from the Sky Sports News studio as referee and pundits were unanimous in their verdict.

Former England Women player Sue Smith was aghast watching the replays as Gallagher, who officiated in the EPL for 15 years and was FIFA-listed for eight, was adamant Dundee United should have been down to 10 men.

Instead Don Robertson flashed a yellow with the challenge slammed by a litany of ex-pros after the game.

Gallagher said: "I don't think the referee has got the view we've got, because if he's got this view he will certainly red card.

"It's high, it's straight legged, studs, point of contact, it's everything...

"I mean Sue is wincing just looking at it. I don't need to say any more.

"Sue's reaction alone has told you that's got to be a red card."

Stephen Warnock, formerly of Liverpool and Aston Villa, was disgusted by the tackle as he added: "That's a leg breaker! It's horrible."
