Calum Butcher punished for Celtic horror tackle as unanimous verdict hands Dundee United star three game ban

Calum Butcher has been handed a three match ban for his reckless tackle against Celtic.

The midfielder will miss Dundee United's next three games against Livingston, Rangers and Hibernian.

A principal fast track SFA hearing date was pencilled in earlier this week and the club have accepted the sanction without appeal.

Butcher was booked for the incident in Celtic's 3-0 win over the Terrors at Tannadice.

His second-half lunge on opposing playmaker David Turnbull drew criticism from pundits and former referees alike after the match.

Former EPL referee Dermot Gallagher branded it a clear red card and suggested Don Robertson's view must have been obstructed for the whistler to only dish out a caution.

All three SFA panellists were unanimous, according to Sky Sports, that Butcher deserved a ban and that has not been contested by Butcher or the club.

He was only just returning from a two-game suspension in the Premiership clash against Ange Postecoglou's side.

And now he's set to be missing again for Tam Courts, with another two games plus a third for his second ban of the season.
