Calum Butcher charged for Celtic horror tackle as Dundee United star could cop SFA ban

Dundee United midfielder Calum Butcher has been charged by the SFA for his horror tackle on Celtic's David Turnbull.

The Terrors' midfielder was caught lunging in with two feet on the Scotland star in Sunday's Premiership clash.

But he was shown only a yellow card at the time by official Don Robertson.

Turnbull escaped unhurt but ex-pros, pundits and even former referees condemned the tackle in the days that have followed, with ex-EPL whistler Dermot Gallagher adamant it deserved a red on Sky Sports while other described it as a potential 'leg-breaker'.

But he could soon cop a ban for the studs-up challenge after being pulled up by the compliance officer.

Butcher will be subject to a fast-track hearing on December 9 as a panel of three former refs deliberate on the tackle.

And Tam Courts could soon be without his number eight for a number of matches leading into the busy festive period.
