Kris Boyd insisted Calum Butcher should have seen red for his studs-up lunge on David Turnbull as the challenge was also branded a "disgrace" by Tam McManus.
And the Sky Sports pundit reiterated his calls for VAR to be introduced as he highlighted the challenge.
Dundee United midfielder Butcher has only recently returned from suspension following a straight red card in the win over Aberdeen last month.
And Boyd is adamant there should have been a repeat in the defeat against Celtic at Tannadice.
Butcher came on early in the second half but he caught Hoops scorer Turnbull right in front of the dugouts.
TV replays showed it was high and his studs caught the Scotland man with Boyd admitting it could have caused him a serious injury.
Having called for VAR after Kyogo’s controversial winner against Hearts, Boyd told Sky Sports that challenge is another example.
Don Robertson only flashed a yellow card but Boyd said: “It’s a red card all day long. There’s no doubt about it. He’s high, it’s at speed and he’s in endangering the safety of his opponent.
"David Turnbull was lucky to get away with it. It’s a red card all day. I know I said it the other night but the sooner we get VAR in Scottish football the better because that’s a red card.
“David Turnbull is very lucky that he didn’t get a really, really sore one."
