Calum Butcher agrees Dundee United contract extension as Tannadice club given Benjamin Siegrist injury hope

Dundee United have agreed a new two year deal with Calum Butcher.

The vice-captain has verbally accepted a contract that will keep him at Tannadice until the summer of 2023.

The 30-year-old is in his second spell with United, having returned in 2019 after previously playing for the Tangerines between 2013-15.

United are also hopeful Benjamin Siegrist’s knee injury isn’t as bad as first thought.

The Premiership club are waiting for a second scan and are hoping things might not be as bad as first feared.

The Swiss keeper might only be out for five to six weeks rather than months.

If that is the case United are unlikely to bring in another goalkeeper, although they have a couple of Premier League loan options.

There have been no new bids for Jeando Fuchs or Jamie Robson.

Lincoln City remain keen on Robson but have to sell Tayo Edun first, who is attracting interest from the English Championship.

Crystal Palace and Southampton remain keen on United youngster Kerr Smith.
