CalMac sailings on lifeline island route cancelled for two days

Sailings on a lifeline ferry route in Ayrshire have been cancelled for two days.

CalMac has suspended services between Brodick on the Isle of Arran and Ardrossan on the mainland due to tough weather conditions today and a poor forecast on Saturday.

The decision follows on from yesterday's disruption with no crossings on the route after lunchtime due to the weather.

And with services between Tarbert, Argyll & Bute and Lochranza also cancelled for Friday, it means Arran is cut off again this month, following days of disruption around the time of Storm Ciara.

In a statement on its website, CalMac confirmed: "Due to weather conditions being more severe than previously forecast, all sailings on this service have been cancelled for today."

And looking ahead to Saturday, the operator added: "Due to the extremely poor weather forecast, all sailings have been cancelled.

"The next sailing, weather permitting, will be the 8.20am [from Brodick] on Sunday, February 23."

Passengers expecting to travel on the Largs to Millport Cumbrae Slip service have been warned that Friday evening's sailings are subject to disruption or cancellation at short notice.
