CalMac cancel sailings between Arran and mainland with 60mph winds forecast

Sailings have been cancelled for much of Saturday on the main route between the Isle of Arran and the mainland.

Ferry operator CalMac took the decision due to the threat of winds of more than 60mph blowing in.

There will be no crossings between Ardrossan and Brodick for most of the day with a review to be carried out at 5pm.

In an update on its website, CalMac said: "The vessel is berthing in Brodick [on] Friday evening and due to the forecast of severe weather for Saturday with wind speeds in excess of 63mph, all sailings up to and including the 4.40pm departure from Brodick have been cancelled.

"There may be a window of opportunity for a sailing later in the day.

"This will be reviewed at approximately 5pm on Saturday. Any sailing will be very much weather dependant."

It has been a hugely disruptive week for islanders with Arran cut off for several days from last weekend.

As well as the poor weather, an engine fault on the MV Caledonian Isles vessel left passengers stranded at each end of the busy route in North Ayrshire.
