‘Calm down Mr Piers’: Piers Morgan hasn’t been this worried after Donald Trump nearly experienced mild discomfort

On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, United States President Donald Trump made a quick visit to the United Nations headquarters to address the assembly. He was accompanied by his wife, the First Lady Melania Trump.

The event was supposed to be a well-guided experience for everyone involved. However, things took a turn, leading to a series of mishaps. The first speed bump was a faulty escalator that stopped working as soon as Trump and his wife stepped on it. The second incident occurred when the teleprompter stopped working when Trump was about to address the people. He expressed his discontent over the matter and said:

“All I got from the United Nations was an escalator that, on the way up, stopped right in the middle. If the first lady wasn’t in great shape, she would have fallen. But she’s in great shape. We’re both in good shape. We both stood. And then a teleprompter. That didn’t work. These are the two things I got from the United Nations. A bad escalator and a bad teleprompter.”

The incident invited criticism from the masses, including public personalities like White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and journalist and writer Piers Morgan.

Leavitt, in a post shared to X on September 24, 2025, hinted at ill intent from UN representatives. Highlighting an article written in The Times, which noted that UN staff members were joking about turning off the escalators when the President visited, she wrote: “If someone at the UN intentionally stopped the escalator as the President and First Lady were stepping on, they need to be fired and investigated immediately.”

Morgan echoed Leavitt’s comments and said:

In response to Morgan’s post, several people expressed disapproval, with one person noting that the UN has already clarified the root cause of the escalator incident.
