Callum Wilson worthy of England call up says Newcastle boss Steve Bruce

Steve Bruce believes that Callum Wilson would be worthy of an England call-up later today.

Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate names his squad for clashes against for a friendly clash with the Republic of Ireland at Wembley and before games with Belgium and Iceland in the UEFA Nations League.

Bruce is delighted with Wilson's six-goal haul in his first few games for the Magpies and was asked about the possibility of an international recall for the poacher.

Speaking at his Press conference before Friday night's game with Southampton, Bruce said: "We're all desperately hoping that Callum gets in the England squad because it would be great recognition for him, great recognition for Newcastle.

"But there's a bit me that says it would be nice to give him a few days off to make sure he's OK in a couple weeks!"

Describing Wilson's efforts for Newcastle so far this season, Bruce said: "The most important thing he does is score a goal.

"I think he's got three goals from a yard this season, which is an unbelievable knack.

"You can't coach that - it's just that instinct to be in the right place."
