Callum Wilson vows to be 'back stronger' in message to Newcastle fans after injury heartache

Newcastle United forward Callum Wilson has vowed to be back 'stronger and hungrier' after being ruled out for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury.

The Magpies confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that the England international forward will miss the rest of the season after picking up another hamstring injury in Friday's 4-2 win over Leicester.

Wilson has already missed seven matches with a hamstring injury picked up in February but had returned to the fold in April to inspire Newcastle to pull clear of the relegation zone.

A brace at the King Power Stadium on Friday meant Wilson ended his first campaign at Newcastle with 12 goals in 26 appearances and he will hope to push towards the 20 goal mark next season if he can avoid injury.

10,000 fans are set to be in attendance next Wednesday when the Magpies welcome Sheffield United to St James' Park for the final Premier League home game of the season.

And Wilson, who is yet to play in front of the Newcastle fans after joining United from Bournemouth last summer, admits it will be frustrating to miss out on their return.

He tweeted: "Frustrating way to end my first season at @nufc having to miss the last two weeks through injury, especially with our first home game this season with fans coming up.

"I’ll be back stronger & hungrier with hopefully a full St James Park. I’m looking forward to meeting you all."
