Callum Wilson tells Newcastle fans exactly what they want to hear ahead of Spurs showdown

Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson could be closing in on a return from injury after posting an encouraging update on social media.

The Magpies' leading goalscorer has been out of action since picking up a hamstring injury in the dramatic 3-2 victory over Southampton on February 6.

United have struggled in the 29-year-old's absence, with Steve Bruce's side scoring just three times in their last six matches.

This faltering form in front of goal has helped plunge Newcastle further into trouble. The Magpies are just one poor result away from dropping into the relegation zone, and are now four points adrift of nearest rivals Brighton following their humbling at the Amex last time out.

Bruce's side face a tough test against Tottenham on Sunday following the international break, but could be boosted by the return of Wilson.

The former Bournemouth striker took to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon to post a positive update which delighted an otherwise despondent fanbase.

Wilson wrote "can't wait to get back out there" complete with an hourglass emoji, leaving fans to speculate over whether the leading marksman could return in time to face Jose Mournho's side.

The England international has scored 10 times in 23 appearances in black-and-white so far this season.
