Callum Wilson's replacement, Kieran Trippier and Sven Botman - Newcastle's January window

Newcastle United are expected to be busy in the January transfer window - and the latest episode of The Everything is Black and White Podcast looks at how next month might shape up.

With Callum Wilson set to be out of action for at least six weeks, United's plans for incomings will have now changed as Eddie Howe looks to play on without his star striker.

United's owners are expected to spend money in what will be their first transfer window since taking over the club in October.

Ousman Dembele of Barcelona is one name put forward, while when asked on Chronicle NUFC's Instagram, Toon fans spoke of Jonathan David or Divock Origi.

When it comes to the defence, Kieran Trippier has been linked with a move, while Burnley's James Tarkowski and Sven Botman of Lille are also said to be on the radar of United.

On Trippier, podcast host Andrew Musgrove said: "He just provides an instant upgrade on the players they've got.

"No disrespect to Javier Manquillo, Emil Krafth or Jacob Murphy but there is a reason why Newcastle United have yet to pick one of them to play there on a consistent basis.

"There's a reason Steve Bruce didn't settle on a right-back or wing-back and why Eddie Howe hasn't - it's because they're just not that good.

"Bringing in Tripper will bring a balance, he's good going forward and defensively he's solid - and Newcastle at the moment don't have that."

Various reports have claimed that Tripper is nearing a move to Newcastle, marking a return to the Premier League after two years with Atletico Madrid.
