Callum Wilson's honest one-word verdict on his debut Newcastle United season so far

Callum Wilson believes he has made an 'okay' start to life at Newcastle United and is desperate to boost his goal tally in the final four matches of the season.

The summer signing from Bournemouth is the Magpies top scorer with 10 goals in all competitions, with the 29-year-old averaging a goal every 211 minutes.

Wilson quickly surpassed the six league strikes managed by last season's leading scorer Jonjo Shelvey, but a hamstring injury has limited the forward's impact in recent months.

The England international made his return as a substitute in the victory at Burnley last month, and made his long-awaited return to the starting eleven in the disappointing defeat to Arsenal last time out.

Wilson's goalscoring form in the early months of the campaign quickly cemented himself as a fans' favourite, but the injury 'setback' means the striker is short of the high standards he sets himself.

Asked to judge his own season so far, Wilson told NUFC TV : "I'd say it's been okay. I'm quite pleased with where I'm at in terms of the games I've played to have 10 goals and five assists.

"I think from now until the end of the season is a chance for me to pick up some goals and finish as close to 15-20 as possible.

"I'm always striving for more, 10 is okay but it's not where I want to be at. I had a little setback, it wasn't in my vision of how the season was going to go.

"But it is what it is, you take what's given to you and we'll give the next four games a real push."
