Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson has reiterated his desire to earn his place back in the England squad ahead of the upcoming European Championships.
Wilson has made a blistering start to life on Tyneside, netting four goals in four Premier League games including a double in his last outing against Burnley.
The former Bournemouth striker has so earned four caps for England, and scored for his country in the friendly victory over the USA at Wembley in November 2018.
However, Wilson's last appearance for the Three Lions was almost exactly a year ago in the six-goal thrashing of Bulgaria.
Gareth Southgate declined to call-up the Magpies striker for his latest squad, instead naming Harry Kane, Tammy Abraham, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Danny Ings and Marcus Rashford as the striking options.
Wilson admits the £20m switch to St James' Park has meant he has left behind good friends at Bournemouth following a six-year spell with the Cherries.
However, the 28-year-old has reiterated his ambition to force his way back into the England fold in time for next summer's championships.
In an interview with former club Coventry City, Wilson said: "For me the long term goal is to try and get into the European Championship squad which is why I wanted to take this opportunity that arose to come back into the Premier League.
“I’ve left a lot of friends behind in the Bournemouth squad but with the Euro’s coming up I definitely feel that I need to hit the ground running and ultimately that will hopefully lead to me getting back into the England squad."
