Callum Wilson makes brilliant vow before Newcastle vs Manchester United injury update is given

Callum Wilson has vowed there are 'plenty more goals' to come from him after the Newcastle United No 9 marked a year at a 'fantastic club'.

The striker completed his £20m move from Bournemouth last September and quickly proved a huge hit with supporters.

As well as finishing up as Newcastle's top scorer last season with 12 goals, Wilson brought a new dimension to the Magpies' frontline with his movement, link-up play and proven Premier League pedigree.

Although niggling muscle injuries disrupted the second half of Wilson's first season at St James' Park, the 29-year-old was deservedly named the club's player of the year.

Wilson has since set himself the target of scoring 20 Premier League goals in a single season for the first time in his career and the No 9 has got off to a promising start after bagging two goals in his first three games of the new campaign.

Wilson has clearly relished the chance to play in front of Newcastle supporters for the first time - games were played behind closed doors last season - and the Coventry native has even been given his own chant to the tune of DJ Otzi's 'Hey Baby!'

Remarkably, it's been 12 months since Wilson swapped the South Coast for the North East and the striker marked that anniversary on Instagram stories by uploading a video of fans singing his name following his opener in the 2-2 draw against Southampton last time out

"One year already since I joined this fantastic club," he wrote. "Plenty more goals with these moments to come."

Wilson managed a tight quad during that game against Southampton last month and the striker came off soon after opening the scoring at St James'.

Wilson intended to rest up during the international break and Steve Bruce will give a definitive injury update when the Newcastle boss faces the media on Friday morning ahead of the trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United.
