Callum Wilson makes bold Liverpool claim ahead of Newcastle United visit

Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson insists they will not hide when they come to Anfield to take on Liverpool on Thursday,

Liverpool will be looking to make it six wins on the bounce in the Premier League and keep on the toes of league leaders Manchester City.

Newcastle, in contrast, have just one victory to their name and suffered their heaviest defeat of the campaign on Sunday after losing 4-0 to Leicester City.

But Wilson believes the Magpies, who have not won at Anfield in the league since April 1994, will go ‘toe-to-toe’ with the Reds, who are at unbeaten at home so far this season.

“We know what Liverpool are about, and stuff like that, but we go toe-to-toe with anybody,” said Newcastle’s number nine.

“We’re not going to be going there with a mindset that we’re already beaten – we have to pick up points off the big teams, and we’ve got one to start with on Thursday.

“We’re on the back of a defeat, so you want to get it out of your system straight away.

“Having another game in midweek, you have the opportunity to put it right.”

The Magpies' first win of the campaign came against Sean Dyche’s Burnley side.

But they failed to carry on building momentum as they were beaten comfortably at the King Power on Sunday.

“We’re disappointed,” admitted Wilson. “After such a good result at the weekend, when we got our first win of the season, to then back it up with a performance like that was a bit disappointing.

“No-one’s to blame, it’s a team thing, but we need to pick ourselves up and go again in midweek.”

After defeat to West Ham United at the start of November, Liverpool have looked an unstoppable force and they will want that to continue on Thursday.
