Callum Wilson has been doing triple sessions in an effort to return to action as soon as possible and the Newcastle United striker has vowed to do 'everything' in his power to ensure he does not have another relegation on his CV.
Wilson suffered a hamstring injury in the Magpies' 3-2 win against Southampton last month and looks set to be out for another three or four weeks.
Newcastle went 10 points clear of the relegation zone with that victory on February 6 but just three points now separate Steve Bruce's side and 18th-placed Fulham.
Newcastle have certainly missed Wilson, who has been directly involved in 55% of Newcastle's league goals this season, and the black-and-whites have yet to win a top-flight fixture in 2020-21 when their top scorer has not played.
Given the nature of muscle injuries, and how players can break down if they are rushed back, Bruce is conscious of 'boxing clever' with Wilson but the 29-year-old has been making good progress with the help of Prime Performance.
The company was founded by Bournemouth club physio Jonny King, who previously helped Wilson bounce back from one of his two serious knee injuries during their time together with the Cherries.
Wilson was relegated in his final season with Bournemouth before completing his £20m move to St James' Park last summer and the frontman will do all he can to keep the Magpies up.
"Where will we finish? We'll finish in a very safe place," Wilson told the Super Six podcast. "I'm not sure on league position, I'm not sure on a number, but I don't personally want another relegation on my CV.
"I will do everything in my power to make that not happen. I'm working extremely hard - double, triple sessions. I'm actually due another session in a minute. It's all good.
"Like I say, I'm going to make sure that I'm back and making a season a success after last season's because it ended in relegation.
"Having back-to-back relegations...I ain't being that guy. I'm going to come back firing on all cylinders basically.
"I need to make sure I hit the ground running straight away because the team needs goals and I need to help out. I'm doing everything in my power to do that."
