Callum West, 27, killed in crash in Hengoed Road and two others critically ill in hospital

A 27-year-old man has died and two others are in hospital in a critical condition following a late-night crash that saw a car leave the road.

A police spokesman said a silver Renault Clio carrying three people left the carriageway in Hengoed Road, Hengoed, at around 10.45pm on Saturday.

Callum West, from the Caerphilly area, tragically died at the scene while the two other men who were also in the vehicle are in hospital in a critical condition.

Mr West's family are being supported by specialist liaison officers following the crash, which is now being investigated by Gwent Police.

The force put out a brief statement on Sunday evening which said: "We’re appealing for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision that happened on Hengoed Road, Hengoed, on Saturday night.

"A silver Renault Clio came off the road at about 10.45pm. There were three men in the car at the time.

"Sadly one of the men, 27-year-old Callum West from the Caerphilly area, died at the scene. His family is being supported by specialist officers. The other two men are currently in a critical condition in hospital.
