Callum Roberts starts as Neal Ardley names Notts County team to face Dover

Callum Roberts has given Notts County manager Neal Ardley a huge boost by being fit to start their National League opener at Dover this afternoon.

The winger had been considered a huge doubt to make the game at the Crabble having picked up a nasty injury to his Achilles during the FA Trophy defeat to Harrogate.

Ardley had said in midweek that he could not the rule the winger out from playing some part in the game, but nobody had expected the former Newcastle winger to start the game.

His inclusion was a huge boost to Notts who were hoping to get their season off to the perfect start against a Dover side who drew with the Magpies twice last season.

In goal was Sam Slocombe behind the back four of Richard Brindley, Connell Rawlinson, Alex Lacey and Adam Chicksen.

In midfield was Callum Roberts, Michael Doyle, Jake Reeves and Jim O'Brien.

Up front were Kyle Wootton and Wes Thomas.

There had been much debate as to what formation Notts would play but Ardley has abandoned the diamond formation and has opted for the 4-4-2 which worked so well last season.
