Callum Roberts 'devastated' as injury fears mount over Notts County star winger

Notts County head coach Ian Burchnall says Callum Roberts was devastated by his latest injury setback as the winger prepares for another spell on the sidelines.

The Magpies ace limped off just a matter of minutes after his introduction as a second-half substitute and headed straight down the tunnel.

It is a huge blow to the ex-Newcastle wideman in what has been a nightmare campaign which saw him undergo an operation to strengthen his stomach lining at Christmas.

But since then his attempts to return to the first team have proven unsuccessful and his appearance at Victoria Park was just his ninth this season.

Speaking after the defeat to Pools, where goals from Gavin Holohan and Richie Bennett sealed the win for Dave Challinor's side, Burchnall insisted the club would get to the bottom of the issues Roberts is experiencing.

"I am more devastated for him and he is devastated too," he said.

"He really wants to play. He feels good and then he breaks down.

"It's something we have got to get to the bottom of and it's really tough for him now.

"We've got to work with him and try to get him fit and he's able to stay fit once he is back."
