Callum McGregor wants end to Celtic and Rangers fan lockout but captain urges squad to 'harness' it

Callum McGregor has had his say on the away fan lockout in the Old Firm derby as Celtic prepare to face Rangers.

Both clubs could not agree on allocations for the remainder of the derby clashes for the season and therefore Michael Beale's men will travel to the east end of Glasgow with no away support. It will be the same for Celtic in the reverse fixture at Ibrox in the split while the showpiece Hampden Scottish Cup semi-final will be roaring with a massive 50/50 split of green and white and light blue.

McGregor was quizzed on his view of the decision and admits he would be keen to see a return to the previous bigger allocations both clubs had at the opposite ground. The 29-year-old, who could be set to guide Celtic to a potential Treble, says his team can harness the energy of 60,000 rabid Hoops fans on Saturday.

He said: "Hopefully as a spectacle we can get it back to where it was maybe a few years ago, where there was bigger crowds in the stadium.

"I think it just adds a little bit of something different. Of course we have to accept it for the time being, but my thought is that hopefully we can get back to having the bigger allocation that we have had a few years ago.

"Of course the place becomes more hostile, we'll be looking to use that to our advantage at the weekend. Hopefully we can harness that energy in the stadium and use it as a positive for us."
