Callum McGregor transfer latest as Neil Lennon delivers Celtic signing warning

Neil Lennon has confirmed Leicester City's interest in Callum McGregor but insists there was no chance the midfielder was ever leaving.

A report this morning revealed Brendan Rodgers had made his move for the Scotland international, with his old manage desperate to be reunited with his Hoops protege in a big money move.

The Foxes were supposedly willing to pay £20million for the 26-year-old, but the Premiership champions stood firm.

Celtic had no interest of parting with another marquee player after Kieran Tierney moved to Arsenal for £25million.

Dermot Desmond is said to have contacted the former Hoops boss directly to tell him the midfielder wasn't for sale at any price.

Lennon confirmed Celtic rebuffed interest in Callum McGregor following reports that his predecessor, Brendan Rodgers, launched a late attempt to take the midfielder to Leicester.

He said: "We are not interested in selling any of our better players now.

"It's well documented that there was interest in Callum. It was just an approach, no bid. That's over now and we will settle him down.

"He is playing as well as he has ever done and hopefully he will again have another fantastic season as he has done the last couple."

The Hoops boss also insists he won't pay over the odds in the quest for fresh faces after Tierney's move down south.

On his own transfer activity, Lennon said: "It makes things a little bit easier in terms of maybe pushing the boat out a little bit more but we're not going to break transfer records and spend silly money.

"We have targets in mind and we are working away on that sooner or later. We are looking at maybe two or three positions.

"We also maybe need to move a few players on to get them playing or make room in the squad. Until we do that, we may not look to bring anyone in just yet."
