Callum McGregor to miss Celtic vs Leverkusen clash as Josip Juranovic hammer blow adds to club’s lengthening injury list

Celtic skipper Callum McGregor is out of his side’s Europa League showdown with Bayer Leverkusen as Josip Juranovic facing another couple of weeks on the sidelines.

McGregor trained ahead of the Parkhead clash with the German giants but Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou has ruled him out of the match.

And Juranovic will also remain on the treatment table after the Croatian full back limped off against Dundee United on Sunday.

McGregor - who recently penned a new five-year deal - has been a huge miss with the captain crocked since the Ross County clash on September 11.

Steve Clarke named him in his Scotland squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Israel and the Faroe Islands.

Clarke was hopeful he would get game time ahead of the crunch matches but Celtic’s trip to Pittodrie on Sunday is now McGregor’s last chance ahead of the international break.

It’s a huge blow for Postecoglou who has mounting injury issues and has won just two of his last seven games in all competitions.

However, James McCarthy is available for the match and Postecoglou is relishing the battle with the Bundesliga cracks.

The Aussie said: “It will be a fantastic occasion, our first home game against a quality opponent which I’m sure the fans and the players are super excited about.”
