Callum McGregor suffers Celtic mishap as Nir Bitton 'hammer' leaves star in need of protective measure

Callum McGregor is set to face Livingston wearing protective strapping on his arm after an unfortunate incident involving Nir Bitton.

Neil Lennon revealed the Israeli "absolutely hammered" the ball at his team-mate from close range during Sunday's Scottish Cup win over St Johnstone.

And it's left McGregor in some discomfort ahead of Wednesday's trip to Livi.

But Lennon expects to the midfielder to shrug off the knock with the aid of a cast.

The Celtic boss said: "Callum is going to be in a plastic cast of some sort.

"Nir Bitton absolutely hammered the ball at him from five yards away.

"He came legging it over and said he needed a caffeine shot.

"He was feeling a little bit of discomfort in it this morning, but he should be ok."

Lennon also revealed James Forrest came through unscathed following a heavy challenge from Saints' Jamie McCart.

He added: “James was lucky, it could have been a bad one, but he’s got big thighs and he rides the tackles quite well."
