Callum McGregor's tiny Celtic recharge window and the marathon man attitude that will impress Ange Postecoglou

Celtic's marathon man Callum McGregor insists he'll only need 10 days maximum to recharge after another gruelling season.

And the Scotland midfielder says he's got an extra motivation at this summer's Euros - impressing incoming manager Ange Postecoglou.

The Australian was confirmed as the new Parkhead boss on Thursday and his arrival in Glasgow is imminent, though he'll need to quarantine for 10 days on landing.

McGregor has been an automatic pick for the Hoops for years and is strongly tipped to assume Scott Brown's captaincy too but he is taking nothing for granted as he laid his astonishing endurance bare.

He's averaged 58 games a season for club and country over the last five years and going straight from the Euros into pre-season and Champions League qualification takes some doing.

He told the Daily Record he thrives on those short summers and said: "I feel great. When you come away ahead of a big tournament, it only energises you. You feel fresher. The good thing about playing so many games is that you feel in a good rhythm.

"In terms of getting a rest, nothing is nailed on, but come the end of the tournament, I’ll get a week to 10 days and then I’ll be back in at Celtic. That’s what I’m used to.

"The summers have been shorter in the last few years but that’s what I feel I need.

"I’ve managed to play consecutively for five years and, touch wood, had no injuries or knock-on effects. So I feel good and I’ll be raring to go.

"I haven’t spoken to the new manager at Celtic yet but I’m sure he’ll be watching me in this tournament.

"It will be a fresh start when we go back and I have this chance to impress him from afar.

"For now, I’m just focusing on Scotland and I’ll deal with club stuff when I get back."
