Callum McGregor’s season finally ends as Celtic star racks up incredible number of appearances

Duracell Bunny Callum McGregor can finally put his feet up – after a season that lasted an energy-sapping 11 months.

The Celtic midfielder played his final game of a long but successful campaign on Tuesday night in Scotland ’s 3-0 defeat against Belgium in Brussels.

It was McGregor’s 69th appearance of a season in which he won the league, Scottish Cup and Betfred Cup as the Glasgow giants secured the treble Treble.

To drill down further, the stats reveal the 25-year-old played a game every 4.8 days to make him one of Europe’s most played stars.

He was in Celtic’s starting XI 88 per cent of the time and played an average of 88 per cent of each league match.

McGregor scored six times in total and three times in the Premiership, with 10 league assists also.

To put his appearances in perspective, Celtic’s next most-played star, James Forrest , featured "only" 64 times.

McGregor’s first outing came way back on July 10 2018 when the Hoops saw off Alashkert in the first qualifying round of the Champions League.

He is due to start all over again when Celtic return to Europe on July 10/11.
