Callum McGregor Celtic ability claim as ex-Kilmarnock star makes Premier League transfer verdict

Former Kilmarnock defender Alex Bruce has doubted Celtic playmaker Callum McGregor's ability to make it in England.

The retired 35-year-old, who finished his career at Kilmarnock, has revealed he's unsure if Premier League bosses, such as his dad Steve at Newcastle, would pay for McGregor.

That's despite Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers making an approach for his former Parkhead protege last summer.

In November McGregor signed a new lucrative five-year deal that likely dispelled the interest in him, at least momentarily.

And Bruce's lukewarm response comes after the Celtic star regularly impressing him during his games against him.

And speaking to Football Insider, Bruce said: "I don’t know, I think it’s one of them where you look at it and think, ‘the physicality, would I go and pay top money for him’?

“I’m not sure to be honest.

“However, he has got the ability from what he produces up in Scotland on a consistent basis, he does catch your eye.

“Whether he would come and take the Premier League by storm who knows, it’s one of them, a toss of the coin.

"I would like to think he would but whether he would, who knows?”

Bruce's take on McGregor comes after he claimed he's talked up Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard to his father and reckons the Frenchman would be a hit in the EPL.

Brendan Rodgers spent £9million to permanently bring the former PSG youngster to Parkhead then reportedly wanted to sign him again to current side Leicester.

But current Celtic boss Neil Lennon will hold out for much more if the striker moves on.
