Callum McGregor maps out Celtic title charge as he eyes 10 games to turn the tables on Rangers

Callum McGregor wants Celtic to go on a relentless run of wins before the winter break to set them up for a new year title charge.

The Hoops skipper is gearing up for 10 massive domestic games in the space of five weeks, which ends with an Old Firm derby against Rangers at Parkhead on January 2.

Ange Postecoglou ’s side are currently four points behind the champions at the top of the table.

They’ll attempt to cut that gap on Sunday with a home clash against Aberdeen while Gers visit Livingston.

McGregor is desperate to rack up victories in December, including the League Cup Final against Hibs, which he hopes can fuel a title tilt in 2022.

The Celtic skipper said: “We want to keep the momentum going because this is a really important period for us.

“When you get to the end of November and December, there are so many games. You get them coming at you every three or four days.

“This is always a part of the season we look at and think, if we can go really strong between now and the break, hopefully we’ll be in a good position at the turn of the year. We are trying to build momentum, in terms of performances and results.

“During this period you’re in a cycle of play, recover, then play again.

“But if you can get into that pattern, the team is feeling good and you’re getting results, it can quite quickly snowball into real momentum.

“That’s something we’ve always tried to do here and I’m pretty sure we’ll be trying to do it this time around as well.”

When asked about closing the gap on Rangers, McGregor insists it’s about taking Postecoglou’s message on board.

He said: “We just have to look at what we are doing.

“We’re a relatively new team with a lot of new players. We focus on trying to improve. If we do that, we’ll try and make sure we take maximum points.

“There are a lot of big games coming up and we want as many wins on the board as we can.”
