Callum McGregor in honest Celtic title assessment as skipper demands memorable first year as captain

Optimistic Callum McGregor is convinced he can crown his first season as captain by getting his hands on more silverware.

The Celtic skipper lifted the League Cup last month – his first trophy since being handed the armband on the back of Scott Brown ’s departure.

McGregor reckons the Hoops are in good shape going in to the second half of the campaign and he’s determined to lead his side to Premiership and Scottish Cup glory.

The Scotland midfielder told Celtic TV : “In terms of the captaincy, it’s obviously been a huge honour for me. It’s something I carry every day and I don’t ever shy away from that responsibly.

“In terms of the first half of the season I think it’s been relatively positive.

“We’ve managed to win the first trophy that was on offer as a group, it wasn’t about how we operate as individuals and the demands the manager puts on us.

“Hopefully that’s just a starting point for us in terms of being successful.

“We are working hard every day on the training pitch trying to get better and better.

“We’ve got a big opportunity in the second half of the season to finish strongly.

“Hopefully we’ll be sitting there looking at a good first year in the captain role.”
