Callum Hudson-Odoi was once again the talk of Chelsea transfer business in the summer when Bayern Munich came calling.
The Champions League winners were looking to make the 20-year-old a Bayern player after a bid of an option to buy loan.
However, Chelsea turned down the move and instead the winger stuck with the club and tried to fight for a place.
It hasn't quite turned out as he would have wanted so far, however, with just one start in the Premier League and one in the Champions League, added to a handful of substitute appearances.
Even with the early injuries to Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech, the academy product was not started over Timo Werner out wide and even Mason Mount or Kai Havertz playing on the wing.
With Ziyech having come into the side and massively impressing already, Hudson-Odoi could find his minutes blocked further as the campaign progresses.
Back in September, Frank Lampard said: “I’d be surprised if any player is not disappointed when they don’t play games.
"With Callum he has to absolutely focus on the work he puts in on the training ground day in, day out. I’ve said it quite a few times. I have to think about how players trained, how they play within the team, how we work on the ball and how we work off the ball.
“I have no favourites. I don’t lean on people because I like them. I lean on people because I want people to be successful, which will hopefully make everybody here happy.
"Callum is a young developing player and a lot of talk has come his way because of the way his career has gone at a young age. The facts remain the same for all young players. They have to work every day to put themselves in the frame to start.”
Hudson-Odoi has massive amounts of ability as he showed while playing for England U21s against Andorra, grabbing a goal and a superb assist.
However, with the January transfer window just around the corner it could be another big month or so for the youngster as he proves why he should be with the Blues.
After this international break, there is a very busy period for the Blues as the Premier League race heats up and the Champions League group stage comes to an end.
Hudson-Odoi might get his chances and he will be desperate to take them and show what he can really do.
