Callum Hudson-Odoi sends Frank Lampard and Gareth Southgate message after England U21 win

Callum Hudson-Odoi has issued a statement of his intent to regain first-team status at Chelsea and England after his latest display for the Young Lions.

Hudson-Odoi grabbed a goal and an assist in England Under-21's 3-1 win over Andorra in the U21 European Championship qualifiers on Friday.

The 20-year-old's cross from the left flank was turned in by Liverpool's Curtis Jones in the first half and he scored the fourth goal of the evening from the penalty spot on 65 minutes.

Hudson-Odoi has scored 10 goals in 70 appearances for Chelsea and has won three caps for the senior England team under manager Gareth Southgate.

But the winger is not in Southgate's current plans and has managed just four starts in all competitions for the Blues this season.

Hudson-Odoi suffered an Achilles tendon injury in April last year and admits he is still on a journey to rediscover his best form.

But his goal-and-assist display for the Young Lions showed his intent and he told BT Sport : "Of course you want to be in the senior team.

"You want to be competing up there every time. But, no matter what level I am playing at, I want to try my best and work hard every day and hopefully get into the seniors.

"If it is going up and down, I want to make sure I stay up there so want to keep working hard, keep my mentality strong."

Hudson-Odoi added: "I feel like I’m still improving. I’m still trying to get more strength in the calf which I lost a lost of muscle from.

"But I feel like I’m getting back to my best and hopefully sooner or later I’ll be back to normal as I was before.

"I just want to keep improving, keep working hard daily and keep getting better day-by-day."
