Callum Hudson-Odoi injury: Chelsea star confirms his season is over with ruptured Achilles

Callum Hudson-Odoi has confirmed that he has suffered a season-ending injury after rupturing his Achilles tendon during Chelsea's 2-2 draw with Burnley.

The 18-year-old winger was named in Maurizio Sarri's starting line-up for the Easter Monday clash at Stamford Bridge, but was forced off after 41 minutes after injuring his right leg.

Hudson-Odoi was chasing down Charlie Taylor in the Burnley half when he pulled up after appearing to roll his ankle while sprinting.

After collapsing to the ground in agony, the 18-year-old picked himself up. But just minutes later, it was soon clear that his evening was over as he signalled to the bench and was replaced by Pedro.

The teenager had to be helped off the pitch by the Chelsea medical staff, and was applauded by the Matthew Harding stand as he slowly made his way around the pitch.

The England international could be seen struggling to put any weight on his right foot unaided, with Gianfranco Zola - filling in on post-match interview duties after Sarri was sent off - fearing the worst, telling Sky Sports: "It looks a serious thing.

While Zola said Chelsea would have to wait until Tuesday to learn Hudson-Odoi's fate, the winger took to Twitter soon afterwards to reveal that his 2018-19 campaign is over.

Hudson-Odoi tweeted the message: "Really gutted to end my season with an Ruptured Achilles, gotta work hard and try and come back stronger for next season!!!"

With the winger yet to sign a contract extension - his current deal runs out in 2020 - and Bayern Munich and Manchester United interested in signing him, there is now the possibility that Hudson-Odoi has played his last game for Chelsea.

With most Achilles ruptures taking between three to four months to heal, Hudson-Odoi will also almost certainly miss England's Nations League Finals journey - the Three Lions are set to face Netherlands in the semis on June 6 ahead of a potential final against either Portugal or Switzerland on June 9.

With Willian also missing from Monday's matchday squad as a precaution, it also gives Sarri a selection headache ahead of the final fixtures of the season.

It leaves Eden Hazard and Pedro as the only fully fit wingers for Sarri to choose from heading into the business end of the campaign.
