Callum Hudson-Odoi gives simple instruction to Chelsea teammates following Juventus defeat

Callum Hudson-Odoi has called for improvement from his Chelsea teammates following their slender 1-0 defeat to Juventus in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The Blues, who were aiming to make it two wins out of two in the competition, were pegged back right at the start of the second period as Federico Chiesa fired in past Edouard Mendy.

Despite dominating possession in Italy, the Blues could not make it count and were limited to just one shot on target throughout the 90 minutes.

The defeat means that Chelsea have now suffered back-to-back losses for just the second time under Thomas Tuchel following the weekend’s reverse at the hands of Manchester City at Stamford Bridge - the German having never lost three in a row with the Blues following his arrival.

In order to avoid that fate, Hudson-Odoi has instructed his Chelsea teammates to take a step back to consider their performances and how they could be better.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website after the Juventus defeat, the 20-year-old said: “We came with the mentality and determination to win and we gave it our best but it was not good enough.

“We know that and we have to go back and reflect on it. There is a lot to improve on and a lot to work on.

“We did well in certain aspects but we can always do better.”

One of the main contributing factors to Chelsea’s defeat in Italy was their poor start to the second-half - Chiesa opening the scoring mere seconds after the restart.

Hudson-Odoi, who was introduced as a second-half substitute, bemoaned the Blues’ slow start to the second period but did however praise their reaction to going 1-0 down.

He continued: “We were disappointed to concede a goal so quickly after the start of the second half and we reacted well, but we didn’t get the goal we should have got.”
