Callum Hudson-Odoi gives Chelsea injury boost as Frank Lampard provides Antonio Rudiger update

Callum Hudson-Odoi has a chance of being fit for Chelsea's Premier League game against West Ham United on Saturday afternoon but the England forward has not travelled to Valencia for tomorrow night's vital Champions League Group H game.

Frank Lampard confirmed that the teenager is recovering well from the hamstring injury he sustained on international duty, while there is also good news regarding the fitness of Antonio Rudiger.

The Germany centre back has long recovered from the knee problem sustained away to Manchester United in April but he injured his pelvis in a freak incident at half-time of his first and only appearance of the season away to Wolves in September.

Rudiger slipped on a metal sheet when jogging towards the tunnel at the interval and has required specialist treatment. However, he is now taking a full part in training and is expected to return imminently.

"We have got Callum Hudson-Odoi not available," Lampard said during his pre-match press conference in Valencia. "He is getting better through the week so hopefully he will be better for the weekend.

"Rudiger, thankfully, we are talking about match fitness rather than the injury itself. He is training hard and it will be more days and weeks rather than months as it has been. That will be the two that are out."

Ross Barkley was left behind in Cobham following an off-field incident during the international break, although he has also been carrying an ankle problem, while Marcos Alonso is not included for tactical reasons.

Valencia's manager Albert Celades has plenty of injury concerns too before a game that neither team can afford to lose in the quest for a place in the last 16.
