Callum Hudson-Odoi admits injury concerns continue as Chelsea prepare for Newcastle United trip

Chelsea forward Callum Hudson-Odoi has admitted that he is still fighting to regain full fitness following his 2019 injury.

The 20-year-old wide man ruptured his Achilles over 18 months ago, spending five months on the sidelines before making his return to first-team action.

Hamstring problems have seen him sidelined briefly a number of times since, but it is that Achillies problem that he says has plagued his last 42 games.

But he is seeing progress, the Chelsea youngster admitted as he chatted to BT Sport after Friday night's England U21 win over Andorra.

Hudson-Odoi scored from the spot during the second half but not before he had provided an expert cross to Liverpool star Curtis Jones to fire home in a 3-1 win.

“I still feel to myself that I’m still improving," he said.

"Obviously I am still trying to get more strength in the calf, which I lost a lot of muscle from, but I feel like I’m getting back to my best.

"Hopefully, sooner or later, I’ll be back to normal as I was before, but I just want to keep improving, keep working hard daily and keep getting better day-by-day.”

Hudson-Odoi will be action against for Aidy Boothroyd's side on Tuesday for a Euro U21 qualifier against Albania.
