Callum Davidson urges Perth heroes to grasp chance to become history makers

They can become legends of Scottish football.

Tomorrow afternoon St Johnstone will attempt to add a Scottish Cup trophy to their already secure League Cup.

It would be a truly remarkable achievement for manager Callum Davidson and his group of players to win both in one season.

“They obviously became pretty special when they won the League Cup for the first time in our history,” Davidson said.

“So the chance to try and do a double is huge, isn’t it? It’s massive.

“Again, though, I think the players know that. I’ve emphasised to the players that when you look back on your career, as I do, it’s what you win and what you achieve rather than certain other things.

“This is a big opportunity. They don’t come along very often for St Johnstone as we know.

“They managed to grasp the last one in the semi-final and final. And they have managed to win the semi-final again.

“So it’s all positive for me in what they have managed to achieve so far. Win or lose the final, it will have been a phenomenal season for St Johnstone and all the players.”

Saints fans across the globe will be tuning in for the big game - and so will Davidson’s family.

“I think my wife is making pies for the grandparents,” he smiled. “They’ll be watching it on telly.

“She’s making a wee pie box for my dad and my father-in-law. They have watched every game this season. They’re season ticket holders at McDiarmid. My daughters will be watching it, too.

“It’s unfortunate they can’t get to the game. I think we’ve all seen the games down south this week with the fans back. What a difference it makes.

“It makes you realise how important supporters are to football, with the emotion and atmosphere they create.

“It’s obviously disappointing they can’t be there but my dad and father-in-law will be okay sitting there eating their pies at half-time.”
