Callum Davidson set to be unveiled as new St Johnstone manager as talks reach advanced stage

St Johnstone are set to announce Callum Davidson as their new manager.

The Perth club has been given permission to speak to the 43-year-old and talks were at an advanced stage on Wednesday.

Davidson has most recently held the position of assistant manager with English Championship side Millwall under Gary Rowett.

McDiarmid Park is familiar territory for the former Scotland international.  He enjoyed two spells as a player and made a seamless transition into the coaching team.

He was assistant manager to Tommy Wright - Scottish Cup win included - before moving on to hold positions at Stoke City, Dunfermline and Millwall.

Alec Cleland has been in charge of Saints’ first-team matters following Wright’s departure.

Saints confirmed: “An agreement has been reached with Millwall FC and we have been granted permission to discuss personal terms with Callum Davidson regarding the vacant managerial post at McDiarmid Park.

“Discussions with Callum are now at an advanced stage with a view to the 43-year-old taking over from current caretaker boss Alec Cleland.”

Millwall noted: “Everyone at the club would like to thank Callum for his superb efforts throughout his time at Millwall and wish him well for the future.”
