Callum Davidson over the moon for "popular" loan star Danny McNamara

Callum Davidson was delighted for Perth match-winner Danny McNamara - and that he actually managed to hit the target.

The St Johnstone manager joked post-match that his impressive loan signing’s shooting has been rather inconsistent on the training field.

But the youngster certainly got his angles bang on when his 70th minute thunderbolt earned Saints three points against Kilmarnock.

Davidson smiled: “It was nice that he actually hit the target for once. He doesn’t often do it in training.

“I’m really pleased for him. He has been one of our best players so far this season.

“It’s great for him to get a goal. He is really popular with the lads.”

Saints moved up to eighth place in the table and only three points back from fifth-placed Dundee United, who have played a game more.

Reacting to the 1-0 McDiarmid Park win, Davidson added: “It was a big game and it takes us a little bit further away from the foot of the table.

“I always knew it was going to be a tough game, a tight game. Kilmarnock are a strong team.

“I thought we dominated the first half, without really testing the goalkeeper. We got into good areas but the quality let us down.

“They had two good chances from set plays but as the game went on we got stronger.”
