Callum Davidson listed among favourites for vacant Preston North End job

St Johnstone may need to brace themselves for interest in manager Callum Davidson.

The cup double-winning boss has been listed as one of the early bookmakers’ favourites for the vacant Preston North End job.

The English Championship club are on the hunt for a new manager after head coach Frankie McAvoy’s departure on Monday evening.

Davidson spent seven years at Preston as a player - captaining the club included - and continues to be held in high regard by their fans.

Many of them took to social media when the Deepdale managerial position became available and noted Davidson as their choice for the role.

He was listed at 6/1 second favourite with Sky Bet at the time of writing, only behind Ryan Lowe - currently in charge at Plymouth - who was at 1/2.

Astonishingly, Davidson won the League Cup and Scottish Cup in his first season in charge at Saints before special European away draws against Turkish giants Galatasaray and Austrians LASK.

This season’s league campaign has been a bit of a mixed bag with the Perth side sitting 10th in the Scottish Premiership.

Davidson signed a new McDiarmid Park contract until the summer of 2025 back in September.
