Callum Davidson gives St Johnstone car crash horror update as boss says Sam Denham was 'very lucky' to walk away from smash

Callum Davidson plans to monitor crash victim Sam Denham over the next few days.

St Johnstone ’s teenage loan star was trapped in an overturned car making for Brechin’s weekend Scottish Cup clash with Haddington Athletic.

After being pulled from the wreckage by two passing Montrose players, one-time Celtic kid Denham declared he was good to play.

And the brave defender, who turned 19 yesterday, netted in a 2-1 win for Andy Kirk’s men at Glebe Park.

It was his first career strike.

“I don’t know how I came out unscathed,” admitted front seat passenger Denham.

“The car in front has just slammed its brakes on us and we’ve had to swerve off the road.

“It’s hit the kerb and done a forward flip into the trees.

“I couldn’t get out. I was stuck.

“There was a few Montrose boys driving past and they’ve jumped out, ran over and dragged me out. It was crazy.”

Perth boss Davidson was relieved the youngster was unscathed after the A90 crash on the outskirts of Dundee.

But he has asked the McDiarmid medical team to keep an eye on Denham.

“First and foremost, I’m glad nobody was hurt,” said Davidson.

“I saw the picture and the boys in the car have been very lucky.

“I’ll speak to Sam to make sure he’s OK.

“When you have an accident like that, your health is far more important than games of football.

“All the loan boys train with us through the week.

“It was a big thing for him to make himself available to play – and then score a goal.

“We’ll be taking every precaution over the next few days to make sure Sam is fine.”
