Callum Butcher's Celtic leg breaker branded 'disgusting' by pundits as David Turnbull lucky not to leave on a stretcher

Callum Butcher's tackle on David Turnbull has been branded "disgusting" as pundits fume over the horror challenge.

The Dundee United man went in high on the Celtic midfielder, with his studs showing into the bargain.

Incredibly referee Don Robertson flashed only a yellow card, with the Hoops going on to win the Premiership clash 3-0.

Pundits were united in their condemnation, with former Rangers winger Neil McCann leading the charge.

The ex Dundee boss felt Turbull was lucky to walk away from the tackle as he branded it a leg-breaker.

Speaking on Sportscene McCann said: "I think Callum had the cheek to actually complain about the yellow card!

“This is as clear as it comes, this is a leg-breaker. If you’re in any doubt that this should have been a red card watch this still.

"How David Turnbull is not coming off on a stretcher is beyond me.

“That’s horrendous.”

And fellow pundit Chris Iwelumo agreed as he also condemned Butcher for the horror tackle.

The former striker said: "The referee’s given him a yellow card so there’s nothing that can be done about that.

“That is a red card, there’s no question about it. Disgusting challenge.”

The tackle has been widely condemned, with Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd slamming Butcher after the match.

The Rangers icon said: "It’s a red card all day long. There’s no doubt about it. He’s high, it’s at speed and he’s in endangering the safety of his opponent.

"David Turnbull was lucky to get away with it. It’s a red card all day. I know I said it the other night but the sooner we get VAR in Scottish football the better because that’s a red card.

“David Turnbull is very lucky that he didn’t get a really, really sore one."

And Record Sport columnist Tam McManus called it "a disgrace of a tackle" on social media.
