Calls to go 'one step further' and give Katie Taylor open top bus after Dublin Airport homecoming announced

Katie Taylor is set for a rapturous welcoming home in Dublin Airport tomorrow morning as the Department of Sport have announced a reception for the champion boxer.

The undisputed champion is set to arrive home on Tuesday morning with an official reception set up for the arrivals hall in Terminal 2.

Her flight is set to arrive around 9.50am with hundreds expected to turn out to greet her.

It's still not clear if there will also be a welcome home party in town or her native Bray - with Dublin Lord Mayor Nial Ring yesterday offering to host something in the Mansion House if Shane Ross failed to.

Councillor Christy Burke has also upped the anti saying he'll be asking the city manager and Dublin Bus to help "go one step further".

Burke said he'd like to see the Bray native paraded down O'Connell St on an open top bus so the public can flock to the streets to see her.

He said: "I welcome the fact that minister will meet Katie Taylor in Dublin airport on Tuesday when she arrives home.

"However, we need to go one step further, I'm asking Dublin Bus and the city manager to parade Katie down O'Connell st in an open top bus and give the public the chance to congratulate her when she arrives into the capital.

Katie Taylor posted a thanks to fans after becoming an undisputed champion (Katie Taylor)

"Katie is an icon and an ambassador for young children and its something young children could be inspired by.

"Let's go all out for Katie!"

On Friday Dublin Live contacted a number of bodies to see what arrangements would be put in place for a homecoming - but so far the airport reception is the only official reception taking place.
