Calls to boycott BBC over Christmas Day schedule

The backlash over BBC One's TV schedule for Christmas Day has escalated, with some even calling for the corporation to be scrapped.

Last week the BBC revealed what it will be showing on December 25, and while many are excited for the Gavin and Stacey Christmas special, the rest has left viewers cold.

There were negative comments on social media last week, and the anger continued through the weekend.

One Twitter-used said: “The 1986 EastEnders Christmas special secured more than 30 million viewers, six times its present audience. In the age of Netflix and Amazon Prime, the BBC just cannot compete. The BBC's TV tax with the threat of criminal prosecution for non-payment has to go."

A second added: "Won’t be watching BBC on Christmas Day then, a pile of broken rusty old nails will be more entertaining than that s*** being served up to the nation!! I urge everyone to boycott paying their licence fee…"

“And this is why we have given up the TV License and give the money instead to Netflix and Prime. Our Christmas Day viewing will be better quality with no repeats and newer films," wrote a third, reports BirminghamLive.

Another added: "Given the huge financial resources of the #BBC and @BBCOne it’s incredible that on Christmas Day they can only manage to stuff their schedules mostly with tired movies and jaded repeats. Quite unbelievable that they’re still pushing out the Two Ronnies. That kind of says it all!"

“BBC used to be fantastic at Christmas it’s just awful now,” another said.
