Calls for Toby Nye Leeds United tribute as Arsenal clash falls on youngster's 7th birthday

The family of Leeds United fan Toby Nye have asked for the club and fans to "do something special" to remember the youngster in the game against Arsenal at the Emirates on Monday.

The day will mark what would have been Toby's seventh birthday, on January 6. Just a under a week later, January 12, will also mark one year since his tragic death, after a two-year battle with cancer.

Kerrie Worsley, Toby's auntie, posted on Facebook asking fans to sing happy birthday to Toby during the FA Cup tie on the 7th minute of the game.

"Please help me make this happen and spread the word if you will, thanks everyone", Kerrie said.

Toby had neuroblastoma, a rare form of the disease, and travelled to the US to receive treatment following a huge fundraising effort from fans, staff and players at Leeds United in 2017.

In June 2018, his family shared the news that Toby had gone into remission, but just months later the cancer had returned in the form of a brain tumour with 'no other treatment options available'.

Whites players joined friends and family for the funeral at Cottingley Crematorium in late January last year, and fans gathered at Elland Road to passed Elland Road one last time.

With just days before the FA Cup clash at the Emirates between Leeds and Arsenal, a post shared on Toby's Facebook page read: "

"The 6th of January should of been our Superhero's 7th Birthday. Leeds play Arsenal on this day. Let's see if we can get the Team & Fan's to do something special for Toby in remembrance."

Toby's relationship with Leeds United captain Liam Cooper captured the hearts of the city. Cooper tweeted shortly after the funeral: "Fly high little man!

"An amazing celebration for an amazing little boy, we will cherish the memories forever. Keep smiling down on us."
