Calls for private parking firms to become more transparent

  • The RAC is urging the private parking industry to increase transparency regarding the likelihood of drivers getting unfair tickets withdrawn.
  • This call follows RAC analysis revealing that appeals bodies, Popla and IAS, publish limited or outdated data on appeal outcomes.
  • The last comprehensive data from the IAS in 2021/22 showed that 94 per cent of cases were found in favour of parking operators.
  • UK drivers received a record 14.4 million private parking tickets in the year to March, a 13 per cent increase from the previous year.
  • The government is consulting on new legislation for the private parking sector, with a minister acknowledging that "too many people are being unfairly penalised."
