Councillors in North Tyneside Council have called for the borough to host a Restaurant Week next spring.
Tory councillors Liam Bones, Lewis Bartoli and Olly Scargill want Mayor Norma Redfearn and the cabinet to work towards several measures to bring people to local eateries.
A motion, put forward by the trio, reads: "North Tyneside has so far had sporadic success with the same concept, with the last Restaurant Week being held before the Covid-19 pandemic. Since then many new eateries have opened their doors and with the cost of living on the rise our local businesses could really do with a boost."

Mayor Redfern and the cabinet will be asked in a meeting attended by the full Council next week to consider organising a North Tyneside-based Restaurant Week. In addition, they will be asked to organise free parking in council-run car parks and discounted Metro tickets to help encourage visitors.
Preston Tory councillor Liam Bones said: "We want to replicate what Newcastle City Council does and make it into a real event here. The last time we tried something like this was pre-pandemic, and we had an aborted effort in 2020. Both of those were spearheaded by a private company.
"It strikes me the council is better placed to bring local businesses into this along with Nexus.
"In what is going to be a bleak winter and spring this could bring people here to explore what our communities have to offer. I am really confident this motion should be unanimous.
"It's not going to use a huge amount of council resources. There could be a slight reduction in income from the car parks but that would be outweighed by money generated by the event.
"I can't see why we would not want to do that."
Councillors will meet on Thursday, November 24 at 6 pm in its HQ in Cobalt Business Park to vote on the motion.
