Callous vandals targeted a memorial bench at a cemetery in Kilmarnock and smashed it into pieces.

Police are hunting for those responsible for the mindless act after the bench, which has 'significant' personal and sentimental importance to the family, was vandalised and broken.

The memorial is believed to have been vandalised between Wednesday April 21 and May 2 at Riccarton Cemetery, Hurlford.

Officers are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.

Police Constable Sclater from the Locality Policing Team at Kilmarnock Police Office said: "We are carrying out enquiries in relation to the reported incident which occurred in Riccarton Cemetery, Hurlford.

“The memorial bench has significant sentimental and personal importance to the family and we are keen to hear from anyone who may have information in relation to this incident.

"We would urge anyone nearby with CCTV, ring door bells or dash cam to check their footage and to please contact Police with information that would assist our enquiries.

"Anyone who may have seen anything is also encouraged to get in touch."

Anyone with information is being urged to contact PC Scott Sclater at Kilmarnock Police Office by calling 101 and quoting incident number 3202 of 5th May 2021.
