Callous son 'wraps dead mum in tarpaulin and puts her out for bin men'

A man has been arrested after allegedly leaving his mum out for the bin men after she died at home.

Jeremy Cassin wrapped his 63-year-old mum Karen up in tarpaulin and dumped her by a tree in the garden for collection, it is claimed.

Police in Texas, US, were only alerted when Karen's mum contacted police and told them of her concerns.

Jeremy, 41, told his grandmother that his mum had died and she had been cremated.

But when she contacted local funeral homes, no-one had heard of her daughter, so she confronted Jeremy on the phone, it is reported.

CBS reports that according to the arrest affidavit, Jeremy found his mother dead on Monday, March 18.

He then removed her from her bed, wrapped her in the plastic sheet and placed her in the front garden near some pine trees.

Rusk County Sheriff Jeff Price said: “His explanation to it was that it scared him.

"He didn’t know what to do. He wasn’t sure what to do, and that was the only thing he could think of.”

He added: "[Karen's mother] called several funeral homes, but the funeral homes had no idea what she was talking about."

Sheriff Price says his office has dealt with Jeremy in the past for minor, nonviolent charges.

"It’s difficult to say what people would do when confronted with certain situations," Sheriff Price said.

"But this would not be your normal reaction. Most people would think, ‘Oh dear!’ and they would call 911.”

Karen's body has been sent for a post mortem to determine the cause of death.

Jeremy remains in the Rusk County Jail on a $25,000 - about £19,000 - bond.
